The Hindoo Patriot was originally published in January, 1853 by Madhusudan Ray, under the editorship of Girish Chandra Ghosh. According to its Wikipedia page, Harish Chandra Mukherjee of the Bengal Recorder joined the paper in 1855, and later bought the paper from Girish Babu, who went on to start another English newspaper called The Bengalee.
After the untimely death of Harish Chandra, the paper received support from Kaliprasanna Singha to continue operating. Girish Chandra Ghosh briefly returned as editor before the paper was bought by Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Krishna Das Pal became its new editor.
Under the 23 year long editorship of Krishna Das Pal, the paper opposed imperial laws like the Immigration Bill, the Vernacular Press Act and the Ilbert Bill through its fiery columns.
The Hindoo Patriot merged with another English newspaper, The Indian Field owned by Kishori Chandra Mitra in 1859. After the death of Krishna Das Pal in 1884, Rajukumar Sarbadhikari became the new editor. The paper became a daily from 16 March 1892.
The Hindoo Patriot stopped publishing sometime in the first half of the 20th century. The last published record is found at the British Indian Association, in Kolkata. Where an archive of the newspaper, spanning the months from March to April 1907 is kept.
